Winners of I am Dominica. Are You? preschool scrapbook competition

Discover Dominica Authority and the Leo Club of Dominica presented prizes to winners of the first I am Dominica. Are You? scrapbook competition on Friday 2nd December. The competition was held among four preschools in the north – Pennville Preschool, Thibaud Preschool, Paix Bouche Social Centre Preschool and Sunflower Preschool. Preschoolers had to design scrapbooks to depict their love for their country and ways in which they can help promote and develop Dominica. Points were awarded for creativity, interpretation of the I am Dominica. Are You? concept and neatness. The overall winner of the competition was Brielle Clarke of Sunflower Preschool who's school fees for the 2012-2013 academic year was paid for by the Leo Club. Brielle also received art supplies. Winners from the other schools were: Akina George – Pennville Preschool, Niah Massicott – Paix Bouche Social Centre Preschool, Mia Didier – Thibaud Preschool. A special prize for creativity was awarded to Shawn-Daryl John of Sunflower Preschool. His scrapbook was designed in the shape of the map of Dominica and decorated with leaves from the flamboyant tree edged with jumbie beads. Notable mention prizes were also awarded to Jayda Boston and Jayhim Laville of the Sunflower Preschool.

Six French journlist to visit Dominica

Discover Dominica Authority will host six journalists from France on December 9 – 14, 2011. This trip is being organized in partnership with French tour operator Allibert Trekking. The group is expected to hike a segment of the Waitukubuli National Trail, hike to the Boiling Lake, visit the Indian River and the Touna Heritage Village. The following media houses will be represented on this press trip: Le Telegramme, Les Dernieres Nouvelles d'Alsace, Midi Libre, I Trekking, Le Dauphine Libere and Le Nouvel Observateur.

Dominica was victorious at the first ever WhaleFest in the UK

Dominica was victorious in the first ever WhaleFest held in Brighton, UK in November 2011. Whalefest is an event designed to showcase the experience of whale and dolphin watching. The weekend long event attracted over 2500 people, participating in speeches from wildlife celebrities and world-known whale and dolphin experts, activities such as marine mammal medic training courses and lots more. Carla Armour, representative for Dominica and Caribwhale, participated in a “Clash of the Titans” fundraising event which allowed for four wildlife-loving celebrities to present on their favorite place in the world and tried to convince the audience that their chosen destination was the very best in the world. Victory was awarded to Carla after five-rounds of educating and answering questions from the audience. She received the total of 53 votes from the audience with the closest opponent receiving 23. The Discover Dominica Authority was very pleased in assisting Caribwhale in participating in this event and look forward to other such events where we can speak to a captive audience and entice them to visit the destination.

The Discover Dominica Authority hosted US journalists

The Discover Dominica Authority hosted US journalist Elena del Valle from the publication Simon & Baker Travel Review in July of this year. As a result of this visit, 2 articles were written on Jungle Bay Resort and the Fort Young Hotel. The purpose of the visit was to inform potential travelers of the types of luxury accommodations which can be found on the island and the ways in which each attracts their respective clients. With well travelled clients reading these articles they are able to obtain first-hand information about the properties and view some of their great features. Dominica continues to make headlines in the media throughout the various markets and this allows for the destination to be present in the minds of the potential visitor when considering their next vacation. The service providers on the island continue to assist with the exceptional service to the journalist allowing them to produce great articles on the destination.
