Discover Dominica Authority participated in New York Times Travel Show

The Discover Dominica Authority participated in the New York Times Travel Show last week which brought the beauty and the island of Dominica to the New York and Tri-State area of the US. The showwas held from January 18 – 20, 2013 and saw many persons visiting the Dominica booth, who had an added interest in discovering the island and what it had to offer. The Dominica display brought much excitement to the show and the booth as persons took photos and information about the island. The DDA was supported by the local stakeholders in its exhibiting efforts by offering prizes to persons visiting the booth and who expressed an interest in knowing more about the island. With the support of stakeholders, it makes it more lucrative for persons to find interest in the booth and in turn learn more about the island. Calibishie Cove, Papillote Wilderness Retreat, Bumping Tours and JTAS/Experiences Dominica made the giveaways possible.

While at the event, the DDA representative was also able to conduct roundtable presentations with travel agents and tour operators who were searching for new and interesting destinations for their clients. The roundtable discussions engaged approximately 45 trade persons.

The Discover Dominica Authority continues to utilize the shows as ways to reach the market and consumers as well as networking with the trade and reconnecting with the diaspora community. The DDA was pleased to have the support of the “Know Your Culture” group based in New Jersey who assisted at the booth dressed in their national wear and welcomed the visitors to the booth. The Authority will continue to reach out and work with our diaspora communities to showcase and sell the island to potential visitors in respective markets.
