German Journalists receive CTO Journalism Awards for features on Dominica

Roseau, Dominica - (April 11, 2011) – Dominica was recently recognized with two (2) travel writing awards as a result of hosting two (2) German journalists last year.

The Discover Dominica Authority participated at the ITB Trade Show in Berlin, Germany, from Mar. 9 – 13, 2011. The event is the world's largest international travel trade fair. During Caribbean Day at ITB on Mar. 13, the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CtO) hosted its second Media Awards ceremony to recognize the support of the German media. A number of journalists attended the ceremony as this moment is very important to them and the work that they produce about the various destinations that they visit.

Mr. Schumann Dietmar of ZDF TV received the award for best TV-broadcast. The film crew visited Dominica for a feature on the island's culture, attractions and music. The DDA introduced the crew to the hospitality and history of the Kalinago people, the music of Michele Henderson live in concert and the various attractions throughout the island.

The second award, for online-media, was presented to Martin Cyris of Spiegel Online. While on island, Cyris explored historic sites, attractions, hikes and cultural activities with special concentration on the Kalinago.

Mr. Colin Piper, CEO/Director of Tourism, Discover Dominica Authority, was present at the ceremony and commented, "We, the people of Dominica, are pleased to have such great articles and segments written about the destination that they are recognized at events of this magnitude. Through the eyes of the journalists, Dominica's abundant beauty and culture is revealed and the audiences are able to imagine the possibilities of being on the Nature Island. We trust that through the many DDA efforts we will continue to increase visitors to the island for the benefit of the service providers within the tourism industry and the people of Dominica in general."

The Discover Dominica Authority continues to work with journalists, travel agents and tour operators in its various overseas markets to ensure that the island receives as much exposure as possible with the goal of attracting visitors to the island.

Elizabeth Wayland, Head of Marketing, Discover Dominica Authority, further stated, "Service providers and destination partners play a vital role in the quality of the journalist and visitor experiences. We would like to thank them for their outstanding service and encourage them to continue to support our partnership in ensuring that Dominica is the destination of choice for any Caribbean vacation."
